Food Energy Index™ · FEI

Some food hands you energy. Some quietly takes it.

You already know this. There are meals you get up from ready to go, and meals you get up from wanting a nap. FEI is that difference, turned into a number you can actually use at the store.

A cart, scored 78
Whole rolled oats+9
Wild-caught salmon+9
Leafy greens, in season+8
Olive oil, cold pressed+7
Flavored instant oatmeal−4
Seed-oil salad dressing−5

Swap three items. Watch the number move. That's the whole practice.

Why anyone bothers

You don't feel your diet. You feel your day.

Nobody notices their food quality in the abstract. They notice these four things — and these are what people report shifting first.

6 AM

Waking up

The difference between opening your eyes and clawing your way out of bed. Often the first thing to change, and often within a week.

10 AM

Clear thinking

Focus that holds through a morning instead of fraying by the second meeting.

3 PM

The crash that doesn't come

The afternoon dip is largely an input problem. Change the inputs and the dip flattens out.

Training

Recovery and output

Better sessions, faster turnaround between them. Trainers notice this in clients before the clients do.

How the number works

Five questions, asked of everything you eat.

No calorie counting. No banned list. FEI asks what a food brings, not what it costs you — and the score moves by addition more often than subtraction.

01

How whole is it?

How far the food traveled from its original form. A potato and a potato chip are not the same input.

02

What was added?

Preservatives, dyes, emulsifiers, sweeteners — things present for the shelf rather than for you.

03

How was it grown or raised?

Soil, feed, season, and distance. Two identical-looking foods can score very differently here.

04

How is it prepared?

Oils, heat, cookware, and storage. The best ingredient can lose most of its score in the pan.

05

Can you find out?

Whether the label actually tells you what's in it. Transparency earns points on its own.

Everything lands on a 100-point scale. Your kitchen has a score, your cart has a score, and a single meal has a score. The point isn't perfection — it's knowing which direction you're moving.

You can't out-train, out-supplement, or out-sleep what you're putting in.
